Abstract

The rapid development of high rise buildings in big cities is caused by activity demand, space need, and expensive land. This condition cause the increase of electrical energy consumption. From the observation on building envelope of high rise buildings in Jakarta, obviously found that a half of them pay less attention to natural potency, and are lack of awareness on the risk of big energy cost. On the design of energy-efficient building, the control aspect of solar radiation has a very important role. Article clarifies the roles of building envelope on an energy-efficient building design in tropical area, provoking the creation of innovative and energy-conscious architectural works, and developing national awareness of energy-efficient habit. The conclusion clarifies that the building envelope is able to save energy tropical area.
