Abstract

Currently, there are 12,420 Irrigation Areas (IA) in Indonesia, with a total area of more than 6.7 million acres that are scattered in 34 provinces. The IA are grouped by the area size and managed by central, province, and region government. The number of IA managed by central government is about 173 regions. Meanwhile, for West Java area, the rice production area is about 346,056 acres, which one of them is Bekasi IA, with the secondary channel region is Rengas Bandung. This region supports food security in Jakarta. Yet, along with the population growth, many problems began to arise, such as: the reduced agricultural land as a result of development, the reduced availability of raw water to irrigate rice fields, added with the changed climate, which are very influential in a planting pattern. Therefore, a study related to management efforts of IA in this region is needed, by means of the raw water sources management, which is available based on the planting pattern and rainfall. The study conducted by using the secondary data obtained from Perum Jasa Tirta II (PJT II), Lemah Abang section in 2007, in the form of rainfall data, area of planting data, planting pattern, and evaporation. It is concluded that there is a deficit of water need about 0.4 m3 per second at the end of March and beginning of April.
